23rd May 2018

I am under the care of Paul Hart at Epsom hospital, having been transferred at my request from the National Hospital for Neurology, Queen Square. I am an NHS patient. I am 66 and have normal pressure hydrocephalus. I first met Dr Hart in December 2016. He has taken a personal interest in my case since that time. I last saw him in January 2018. My next appointment was fixed for January 2019. On 31 January 2018 I was surprised to receive a phone call from him at home. He told me he had been thinking about my case and had further ideas for treatment. He advanced my appointment to end-May 2018. I think this shows a degree of commitment more than I might normally expect from an NHS practitioner. I await our next meeting with interest.

I went to see Dr Hart on two different occasions at St Helier Hospital. At my first appointment with him he come across as polite, reasonably helpful and diagnosed me based on a test I had had done previously. However, the second time I saw him he was like a different person. He was uninterested, dismissive and spoke rudely to me. He seemed to get annoyed with the questions I was asking him and basically just wanted to discharge me from his clinic. I thought I had a neurological diagnosis, but he seemed to throw it into doubt and was not willing to do any further tests to get a definitive diagnosis. The clinic letter I received some weeks later left me totally in limbo. I do not think that is acceptable and I had to seek a second opinion from a different Neurologist at a different hospital. This led to a delay in my diagnosis and getting further tests done that I needed.
